NORWEGIAN CAPITAL LINK BOOST FOR DURHAM TEES VALLEY

Eastern Airways will connect Durham Tees Valley Airport with Oslo as it starts its first ever link to the Norwegian capital on Monday (12 January 2009).

The independent regional airline, which is one of the UK’s most punctual scheduled airlines*, is offering a daily weekday connecting service from Durham Tees Valley to Oslo via Aberdeen aimed at business travellers, tourists and winter sports enthusiasts.

Flights depart from Durham Tees Valley at 6.40am, arriving in Oslo at 1.05pm local time.  Departures leave Oslo at 1.45pm, arriving in Durham Tees Valley at 5.10pm local time.

Norway is the third largest exporter of oil in the world and a number of energy related companies have offices in Oslo, which has the busiest cargo port in the country, along with many shipping companies and insurance brokers.

“Our first service to Norway’s capital will help to further strengthen business links between both regions,” said Eastern Airways’ director, Graeme Ross.  “Our frequent service to Aberdeen from Durham Tees Valley has developed over the years providing businesses, including the energy sector, with a vital transport link, which now connects to Norway’s largest city.”

Oslo is an ideal short break destination located on the shore of Oslo fjord and close to the Oslomarka green hills.  The city has international cuisine, cosmopolitan shopping and a variety of art museums, and with its Viking heritage a visit to the Viking Ship Museum is a must.  In the winter Oslo has hundreds of kilometres of cross country ski trails and eight ski centres.

The airline has also been providing high frequency services from Durham Tees Valley to Aberdeen for nine years predominantly serving the business community, including those in the offshore industry.
