Garry’s flying high with learning award

Garry Donald

Durham Tees Valley Airport chiefs have praised the achievements of one of their employees who has proved a top performer in an adult learners’ scheme run by Darlington College.

The achievement of Maintenance Assistant Garry Donald was recognised when he was presented with his award at a ceremony held at Darlington Town Hall to mark Adult Learners’ Week. Described by staff at the college as an ‘exemplary student’ with an infectious zest for work, 43-year-old Garry completed key elements of the course, which can normally take weeks or months, in just three days.

Garry, who is working towards an electricians apprenticeship, has a keen interest in Health and Safety matters which he used as part of his English portfolio on the course, including work completed for the Airport as additional research and even designing an information leaflet for new employees.

Says Durham Tees Valley Airport Director Kerry Quinn “We are all delighted with Garry’s achievements and the fact that his efforts have gained deserved recognition. We have worked closely with the staff at Darlington College in developing the training programme for Garry and this really does demonstrate the benefits which individuals can gain from Adult Learning.”
