Durham Tees Valley Airport and The Tees Forest have joined together to give passengers the opportunity to contribute to their local environment and take a step towards off-setting the carbon emissions from their flight. The new initiative known as Last Call! provides passengers with the opportunity to invest in their local environment before or after taking a flight from Durham Tees Valley Airport by helping to plant trees in the nearby Tees Forest, managed by North East Community Forests Ltd.

There are two ways in which passengers can support the scheme either by donating money in the collection box which is located in the Airport Departure Lounge or by contributing online at www.lastcall.org.uk. Durham Tees Valley Airport’s parent company (Peel Airports) is the first UK Airport Group to instigate such a passenger Carbon Sequestration Scheme, and is looking forward to a long term sustainable partnership with The Tees Forest that will allow the scheme to grow in years to come. Contributions made by passengers will go towards planting trees to help absorb some of the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from their flight.

The Tees Valley Climate Change Partnership is also supporting the scheme and recognises the value it will have in publicising the need to offset carbon emissions. The Airport Company has also pledged to match passenger contributions made at the collection box, therefore doubling the amount going towards this worthy cause. Donations made by passengers will not only help to off-set emissions, funding will also create invaluable woodland valued by wildlife and people alike to enjoy for years. Visit www.lastcall.org.uk and make your donation.

Durham Tees Valley Airport acknowledges that noise remains the impact of greatest concern for local residents to Durham Tees Valley.  Durham Tees Valley Airport have developed a Public Noise Complaints procedure as approved by the Local Planning Authority to handle, monitor, investigate and report each complaint lodged by members of the public.

Holland offers lots to see and do, no matter what your interests are.  You might want to book your flights to Holland so that you can experience the incredible nightlife of Amsterdam, the shopping of the Hague, or the art in Rotterdam.  No matter why you want to visit Holland, it’s always a good time to get your flights to Holland booked, and get ready for an experience you won’t forget.   After you have arranged your flights to Holland, you’ll want to make sure that you get your Durham Tees Valley Airport hotel, car hire, car parking and travel moneysorted too.  Why not do this online at Durham Tees Valley Airport today, and save yourself time and money?

Amsterdam

Probably the most popular destination for flights to Holland is Amsterdam, and it’s easy to see why so many people choose to visit this incredible city every year.   A lot of visitors are tempted to book flights to Holland so that they can see the museums and galleries in Amsterdam for themselves.  The Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmueum, Anne Frank’s House, Museum het Rembrandthuis, and the Amsterdam Historical Museum are on most people’s list of places to visit in Amsterdam. As well as its art and museums, Amsterdam is well known for its nightlife and “brown cafes” which are the traditional Dutch pubs.  Some of the best brown cafes can be found at Zeedijk near the Central Station, and at Utrechtestraat, Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein.  These areas are visited by many of the people who choose to book flights to Holland, and you haven’t experienced Amsterdam until you’ve been to a brown café. Amsterdam offers incredible shopping facilities, and is another reason why so many flights to Holland are booked every year.  With over 10 000 shops to choose from, you’ll definitely be spoilt for choice here.  The most popular palaces for those looking to find something unusual or snap up a bargain are around Kalverstraat and Leidsestraat.  If you’re looking for an exclusive designer store, then you’ll probably find it in the museum district. If antiques are your thing, then you’ll want to spend time in the Speigelkwartier.  De 9 Straatjes, The 9 Streets district, is full of unique shops, and makes the perfect place if you’re looking for somewhere to eat or relax whilst out shopping.  You won’t want to miss the many markets whilst you’re here, and see the local produce for yourself.  Don’t forget that Amsterdam is an international centre for diamonds too.  If you’re looking for a special piece of jewellery, then you’re definitely in the right place. The Jordaan District and the Royal Palace should also be on your to do list.  You’ll have to plan your time carefully so that you make of your visit here.  Alternatively why not book more flights to Holland, and come back and see what you missed out on?

Rotterdam

Rotterdam offers just as many things to see and do as Amsterdam, and it’s no wonder that so many people choose to book flights to Holland so they can visit Rotterdam.

The old markets down by the quay side are unmissable, and if you like shopping, you won’t want to miss the Witte de Withstraat, Van Oldebarneveldstraat, Meent, Oude Binnenweg, and Nieuwe Binnenweg areas of the city. There’s always something going on by the waterfront, which is not surprising as Rotterdam is the largest port in Europe. You can find out more about this incredible city with a bout tour around the harbour.  The amazing Erasmus Bridge connects the north and south parts of the city, and was opened in 1996.  It’s 800m long, and allows ships to pass through.  It really has to be seen to be appreciated, and it’s no wonder it’s the subject of more conversations in Holland than the bridges in Amsterdam.  Flights to Holland can see you in Rotterdam quicker than travelling by ferry. As well as being the largest port in Europe, Rotterdam is also home to some amazing architecture and buildings.  You won’t want to miss the Van Nelle Building, Cube Houses, Hotel New York, or the Kop van Zuid whilst you’re here.  If you’re more of a flier than a sailor, you’ll love the fact that flights to Holland can see you in Rotterdam quicker than a ferry. The impressive Euromast offers unrivalled views of Rotterdam, as it’s 185m tall.  If you want to watch the city as you dine, there’s even a restaurant here.  For the brave, it’s even possible to abseil down the tower too.  If you haven’t got a head for heights, why not visit the Rotterdam zoo instead? The Netherlands Art Institute can be found in Rotterdam, and this is a very artistic city.  If you appreciate modern or fine art, then you’ll love the galleries and museums in Rotterdam.  Why not find out if there are any exhibitions on that you want to see, so that you can book your flights to Holland for the right time? You’ll want to find somewhere to eat and drink whilst you’re here, and you’ll definitely be spoilt for choice. With many cafes and restaurants to choose from, you’re bound to experience great food.  Rotterdam is well known for offering brilliant nightlife.  If you’re fed up with the clubbing scene in the UK, why not book flights to Holland, and see what a night out in Rotterdam is really like?

The Hague

As the capital of the Netherlands the Hague offers lots to see and do, and perhaps surprisingly isn’t as popular destination with those who book flights to Holland as Amsterdam or Rotterdam.

Like most capital cities, The Hague has plenty of shops for those looking for a bit of retail therapy.  You’ll want to visit the Haagsche Bluf shopping centre, and De Frederik Hendriklaan , or the Fred as the local residents call it. The Statenkwartier, Prinsestraat and nearby streets are where you need to be if you’re looking for antiques or collectibles, or perhaps some designer items and mementoes and souvenirs of your time here. You won’t want to miss the Maudromdam model village, or the Panorama Mesdag, which is a cylindrical painting 160m² in size, and dating from 1881.  It’s also, not surprisingly, the biggest painting in Holland. Even though it’s a thriving modern capital city, it’s possible to be on the beach in a few minutes.  The popular holiday resorts of Scheveningen and Kijkduin are just outside of The Hague.  If you can’t decide between a beach holiday and a city break, why not choose both and book your flights to Holland and visit The Hague. Many other towns and villages are popular with visitors who book flights to Holland, and no matter whether you’re looking for a flower market, or just want to see fields of flowers in bloom.  As the country is so flat, Holland is popular with cyclists, both recreational and professional.  Football is also another popular pastime here, so whether your team is playing a Dutch team in a European game, or you want to experience a Dutch football match for yourself, you’ll definitely want to book your flights to Holland.   Because Holland is the perfect destination and so close, there are many flights to Holland every day.  If you’re coming here on business, and book your flights to Holland at the last minute, or book your holiday flights to Holland well in advance, you’re sure of a warm welcome, and plenty to see and do.  Flights to Holland will let you experience this amazing country, whether you’re coming on a hen or stag weekend, city break, or summer family holiday.

DTVA Terminal

Durham Tees Valley Airport (DTVA) was originally an important RAF airfield during the Second World War. DTVA began commercial operations as Teesside Airport in the mid 1960’s under local authority control, providing services to both the local business community and leisure passengers.

DTVA is situated 10 miles to the west of Middlesbrough in North East England.

In 2011, the airport handled over 200,000 passengers.

In April 2003, Peel Airports reached an agreement with the six local authority shareholders (Durham, Darlington, Stockton-on-Tees, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool and Redcar and Cleveland Borough Councils), to acquire a 75 percent shareholding in the Airport with the local authorities retaining a 25 percent interest in the company. In June 2010, Vantage Airport Group (formerly Vancouver Airport Services) acquired a 65 percent share in Peel Airports, which included DTVA. The six local authorities continue to be shareholders in Durham Tees Valley Airport.

On 10th February 2012, Peel Airports Limited concluded the sale of its majority shareholding in Durham Tees Valley Airport to Peel Investments (DTVA) Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Peel Group.

Principle airlines providing services at the Airport include KLM whose regular services to their Amsterdam Schiphol hub, provides access to their worldwide flight network and Eastern Airways who operate regular services to Aberdeen.

Significant investment in recent years includes the completion of a new access road to the terminal and car park improvements.

The renaming of the Airport to Durham Tees Valley Airport in 2004, helped to locate it on the international travel map, and provide a modern and convenient gateway to the region for visitors, further cementing the Airport’s commitment to regional tourism.

At Durham Tees Valley Airport, we are committed to an open, honest and fair recruitment process. Our vacancies are advertised here on this website and, where appropriate, through the Job Centre and local press as well as industry specific publications. Vacant positions can be found on our website when available.

Unfortunately, due to the high volume of applications we receive, we are unable to respond directly to speculative applications or applications that are not shortlisted for interview. However, applications will be kept for a six month period and reviewed against all available positions during this time.

Due to the high security rating of our industry, we regret that we are unable to accommodate requests for work experience or educational placements at the airport.

Durham Tees Valley Airport wholeheartedly supports the principle of equal opportunities in employment and condemns all forms of unlawful or unfair discrimination. We are committed to ensuring that no person is treated less favourably because of their sex, ethnic origin, nationality, marital status, sexuality, age, disability or religious beliefs.

The Company believes that it is in its best interests and those of all who work in the Company to ensure that the human resources, talents and skills available throughout the community are considered when employment opportunities arise. Discrimination, of any kind, which prevents the Company from doing so is a misuse and a waste of human resources and is also illegal in many instances.

The Company will take every step to ensure that individuals are treated equally and fairly, and that decisions on recruitment and selection on training, promotion and career development are taken solely on job-based criteria.

Acts of discrimination including harassment are grounds for disciplinary action and individuals have the right to seek redress under the appropriate policy i.e. dignity at work or grievance procedure.

In recruiting, Durham Tees Valley Airport will seek to ensure equality of opportunity and treatment for all persons. All documentation and advertising will be closely examined to eradicate any potentially discriminatory material. Media will be chosen to try and ensure the widest and most diverse audience possible. Selection procedures and criteria will ensure that individuals are selected and promoted on the basis of their relevant merits and abilities.

We will actively encourage job applications from people with backgrounds that are significantly underrepresented in the Company (including in particular, people from ethnic minority groups, women and disabled people).

This will be achieved through support, so that people from underrepresented groups can compete for jobs and promotion opportunities on the same basis as everyone else.

Reference Checking

Durham Tees Valley Airport is required, by the Department for Transport, to obtain references for your whereabouts during the past 5 years, in order for a security pass to be issued. As part of any application a 5 year reference history will be required and undertaken for all successful applicants.

All formal offers are dependent on reference checks being successfully completed. Obtaining references can sometimes be a lengthy process, and therefore, where possible, all applicants are asked to assist in following up reference requests.

We also advise successful candidates to contact referees to notify them that Durham Tees Valley Airport will be in contact shortly for the purpose of providing a reference. This can also help speed up the process.

It is company policy not to apply for references until an offer of employment has been made.

Criminal Record Check

Durham Tees Valley Airport is required by the Department for Transport to ensure that all Restricted Zone pass holders undergo a Criminal Record Check (Basic Disclosure).

A Criminal Record Check details any convictions a person has that are considered to be unspent. Further details of disqualifying criteria and spent convictions will be provided to applicants at the relevant recruitment stage.

If for any reason the Criminal Record Check is returned containing a conviction that is listed within the disqualifying criteria, you will not be issued with a restricted zone pass which may result in any offer of employment with Durham Tees Valley Airport being withdrawn or employment terminated.

The cost of the Criminal Record Check is paid for by Durham Tees Valley Airport.

    Airport Consultative Committee

In common with airports across the country, Durham Tees Valley has a Consultative Committee which acts in an advisory role and provides the opportunity for dialogue between the airport and representatives of the local community.

It provides a forum in which a wide range of issues relating to the airport and the community can be discussed. It provides a very important role in helping to strike a balance between the commercial interests of the airport, the important benefits it brings in helping to drive forward the sub-regional and North East economy, and the interests of local people.

Its membership is drawn from local county, borough and parish councils, together with organisations representing the travelling public and airport users. The Committee meets on a quarterly basis at the airport site and its meetings are open to the public and media. The Airport Director is a member of the committee.

Durham Tees Valley Airport (DTVA) is bringing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to the forefront of its business. DTVA is building upon the previous ad-hoc community activities which will now be co-odinated through the CSR approach.

DTVA continues to build upon, and develop relationships between the Airport and key stakeholders such as local communities and businesses. Below are some CSR initiatives which will help the Airport to achieve this aim.

Durham Tees Valley Airport - Chosen Charities

Charitable giving at DTVA has recently been reorganised involving employees to select two chosen charities. The Airport conducted an employee charity vote and from a shortlist of 16 local charities, which had derived from an employee Charity Panel, employees had the opportunity to vote for two charities of their choice.

Durham Tees Valley Airport - Community Investment Fund

DTVA works with numerous local groups to help them progress their various schemes through the Airport’s Community Investment Fund.

Durham Tees Valley Airport recognises that in operating a successful airport there will inevitably be some environmental impact upon individuals, communities and businesses close to the Airport and its flight paths. Clearly, the operation and development of an airport requires a careful balance, taking account of economic, social and environmental effects.

    Service Standards

Customer waiting times have been defined in order to minimise inconvenience and achieve aircraft turn-round targets as specified by each individual airline.

All departing customers must reach their aircraft in time to enable timely pre-boarding.  It is essential that arriving customers disembark their aircraft as quickly as possible in order not to compromise operational turn-round of aircraft.

    Customer Waiting Times

    1. For Pre-Booked Departing Customers

Upon arrival at the airport, once they have made themselves known:

    • 100% of customers should wait for no longer than 10 minutes for assistance.

    2. For Non Pre-Booked Departing Customers

Upon arrival at the airport, once they have made themselves known:

    • 100% of customers should wait for no longer than 20 minutes.

    3. For Pre-Booked Arriving Customers

Assistance should be available at the aircraft side for:

    • 100% of customers when the aircraft arrives “on chocks”.

    4. For Non Pre-Booked Arriving Customers

Assistance should be available at the aircraft side for:

    • 100% of customers within 10 minutes of “on chocks”.

Durham Tees Valley Airport can be easily accessed from the A1(M), A19 and the A66. We’re located only 6 miles east of Darlington, on the A67.

Knowing what is allowed and what is not, will enable you to prepare for your journey before you arrive at the airport which can save time and minimise inconvenience. The following is a guide to the restrictions that are in place, together with advice to help passengers pass through the security search area as quickly as possible.

    Baggage Restrictions

    Cabin Baggage and Size Allowed

You are permitted to take up to two items of hand baggage through the security search area.  Each piece must not exceed the maximum size of 56cm x 45cm x 25cm and must fit comfortably in the hand baggage gauge. If you wish to carry a laptop and/or handbag as hand baggage, they will be classed as one of the two items permitted.

Please note, hand baggage allowances vary from airline to airline therefore we advise you to check with the individual airline before arriving at the airport.

    Electrical Equipment

Laptops and other large electrical items (e.g. a large hairdryer / portable DVD player) will have to be removed from your hand baggage and screened separately. Cameras and mobile telephones may remain in your bag.

    Liquids

Restrictions are in place limiting the amount of liquids that can be taken through the security search area.

Passengers may carry small quantities of liquids but each individual container must not exceed a capacity of 100ml. Any liquid items larger than 100ml can not be carried in hand baggage and must be packed within your baggage which is checked-in and carried in the hold of the aircraft. Any liquid items larger than 100ml found in hand baggage will be confiscated.

All containers, 100ml or less, must be placed in a single, transparent, re-sealable plastic bag, which itself must not exceed 1 litre in capacity (approximately 20cm x 20cm). The contents of the plastic bag must fit comfortably so that the bag closes properly when sealed.

Only ONE transparent bag of liquids is permitted per passenger, and must be removed from hand baggage and presented for examination at the security search area.

    Remember that ‘Liquids’ includes:

    * All drinks, including water, soup, syrups

    * Cosmetics, creams, lotions, oils, perfumes, mascara, etc

    * Sprays and pressurized containers including shaving foam and spray deodorants

    Exceptions to the 100ml rule

    Medicines

Please note medicine of a non essential nature, i.e. non-prescribed or “over the counter” liquid based medication must be carried in containers not exceeding 100ml and must be presented within the clear re-sealable bag along with other liquid based products.

    Baby Food or Milk

Baby food or milk is exempt from the 100ml rule, however, you should only carry what you need for the flight and you may be asked to taste the item(s) at the airport search area.

Before you arrive at the Airport:

    • Limit quantities of what you may need in the cabin for the duration of the flight.
    • Wherever possible, put liquids in hold baggage.
    • Prepare the re-sealable bag of liquids before arriving at the airport.
    • Check any queries you have with the airport or airline before travelling to the airport.

    At the Airport Security Point:

Be ready to hand over your re-sealable bag of liquids for screening as you approach the security check point. It will be screened at the same time as your hand baggage.

All coats and jackets will have to be removed ready to be screened and items including wallets, keys will have be placed in plastic trays and scanned separately.

If you are carrying a Laptop or any other large electrical item within your cabin luggage then please have it ready for separate screening as you approach the security check.

Duty Free / Departure Lounge Purchases:

When asked questions about your baggage, you must answer carefully and clearly. In the UK, it is now an offence to give false answers to such questions. Even the most casual remarks may be treated as a real threat and will brought to the attention of the police.
