Airport gives students a taste of the industry

Durham Tees Valley Airport has again provided the venue for the awards ceremony for local students aiming for careers in the aviation industry.

Around 70 students, family and friends gathered at the airport for the annual event marking the success of students from Stockton Riverside College which offers a range of courses designed to provide the skills needed for a wide variety of job - from air traffic control and engineering to cabin crew and management.

Says Airport Manager Shaun Woods:

We have a good relationship with the College and are happy to play our part in encouraging their students to pursue their ambitions to work in aviation.

We also provide employment opportunities for some of the students - for example three have recently taken up posts as passenger service agents with Servisair.

Of course, not all of the students will necessarily gain airport jobs but the event does give them a taste of the industry and the wide range of opportunities available.
