Durham Tees Valley Airport has strengthened its management team with the appointment of a new head of safety.
Forty nine-year-old Andrew Shaw, who has taken on the role of head of Operational Risk, Safety and Regulatory compliance, has many years of experience in the aviation industry, including working for British Midlands, easyJet, First Choice and Liverpool John Lennon Airport, where he was Head of Group Safety.
Andrew, who has a Master’s Degree in risk management, will oversee safety issues across all areas of the airport sites and says he is delighted to be joining the Peel Airports team.
He explains “My aim is to ensure that, by working closely with the regulator and my team, Durham Tees Valley Airport can set the standard for safety and we will be able to share examples of best practice within the industry.
“My ethos is to be proactive when it comes to managing safety and risk, working to ensure that problems are avoided and that anyone or anything that comes into contact with the airport, whether it passengers, members of staff or planes is well looked after and not exposed to any unnecessary risk.”
Andrew’s appointment was warmly welcomed by Airport Managing Director Steve Gill who stressed the importance of his role.
“Operational risk, safety and regulatory compliance are of the upmost importance to all of us at the airport and I am sure that Andrew will work to ensure that we are continually achieving our targets and setting the standard throughout the industry.”
“He brings a number of key attributes to his new role, including a wealth of both aviation and risk management experience, and I am sure that he will be a great addition to our team.”
